As the country have been electing a new Dáil we took the opportunity to talk about elections in Junior Infants under the Equality and Justice strand of Learn Together.
We talked about elections helping us pick the best person for a job. In Ross and Ailish's classes we had elections for the Superstar.
We also met Alf and Ponco who wanted to run the country. We talked about what issues might be important to them like saving electricity, taking care of paper and crayons, feeding birds and making the world pretty.
We had a walking debate where the children picked their candidates based on their issues. We made posters for our favourite candidate, registered to vote with polling cards, we voted by filling out our first and second preferences on a ballot paper and then we counted and tallied the votes.
Ponco was a clear winner! See some of the activities below in these photos.
