This week Claire'e class has begun to include socio-dramatic play into the daily play rota during the week. This takes place daily during sessions of play which usually last about 35-45 minutes. We try to incorporate and include as many areas as possible of the curriculum while the children are playing. During play rota children experience activities that motivate them and make learning exciting and enjoyable. They experience an array of language and skills which help them develop and progress in a fun and exciting way! At the moment we are using socio-dramatic play to expand our imaginations and creativity using the resources at hand.
Last week we read the book 'Changes Changes' by Pat Hutchins. This is a picture book without words. It's a story of how two characters use 3 D blocks to build different things and how they change as things happen. During our Play Rota some of the J.I's decided to recreate the buildings they read about in the book.
Junior Infants have been learning some new nursery rhymes. Here is a short video of Claire’s class using real life materials to help us remember the words for Baa Baa Black Sheep. We think they did a great job reciting it! Along with Baa Baa Black Sheep we also learned Humpty Dumpty. Claire’s class absolutely loved this youtube video of Humpty. Have a look - We integrated Humpty Dumpty into our drama lessons and play rota. Check out the castle some of the children in Claire’s class made for Humpty. Fit for a King we think!Next week we will be learning Jack and Jill. We are looking forward to seeing how the children will bring what they have learned into their play!
