This week we started to learn about Patterns! Patterns are all around us and we began our learning by having the children pick out different patterns in the classrooms. For example, floor tiles, wall paper, clothing etc. We then made our own patterns using unifix cubes and finally made a linear pattern from different shapes and colours. Our patterns are on display just before you come into the Junior Infant area of our school. You can also check out this really simple but effective youtube clip on patterns. The children really loved it.

We have also been learning about Data and what it means. We explored how data can be displayed in various ways such as pictograms, bar charts, pie charts and tally charts. We created lots of opportunities for data analysis and for the children to create their own bar and tally charts. Here is an example of Junior Infants creating their own bar chart of their favourite colour. They all chose a disc of the colour they liked the most and then represented their choice on a bar chart. Just for the record ........ Blue turned out to be the most popular colour!!
